Purpose built in 2005 The Duddon Sands Hostel stands in the grounds of The Ship Inn. It offers low cost, high quality accommodation for people who like to spend their days getting muddy and wet, but still want to be warm, dry and comfortable at night. Being adjacent to one of the best and friendliest of the Lakeland village pubs has obvious advantages when it comes to the evenings and our guests are tired, hungry and thirsty.

With the exception of the beer garden, both the pub and the hostel are entirely no smoking.

FACILITIES AND FOOD

The hostel has a large car park and bike storage shed with a hose to rinse equipment down. From the car park a door leads into the hostel giving access to the drying room and the male and female shower rooms, ensuring that any mud stays downstairs. Upstairs are three bedrooms. Two sleep four people and one sleeps eight, all in solid wood, hand made bunk beds. A travel cot or bed cot-sides are available for little guests. All bedding is provided but you will need to bring your own towels. Outside the bedrooms is a landing/sitting area with views over the estuary through floor to ceiling concertina-opening windows (for the summer evenings). A door leads from the landing into the beer garden of the pub which is equipped with patio heaters, beautiful views and a Wendy House for the little ones.

The hostel is unstaffed after the pub closes, but someone is usually available in the owners' flat at the back of the pub for emergencies. Guests will be given a door key so that they may come and go as they please.

Breakfast is served in the pub from 8am onwards. Please arrange a time through the bar staff. There is a choice of a cereals and toast breakfast, or full English.
Evening Meals and hot drinks are available in the pub. We serve a fabulous home cooked menu catering for special diets if required. Food available up till 9pm.
Packed Lunches can be requested at the bar.

BOOKINGS

We do not own or operate the hostel but we can take bookings on behalf of the hostel.  To book please telephone with your details. We only take bookings made by phone as we like to discuss your requirements and get to know you.
During busier times, if you wish to ensure a private room exclusively for your party, or a single sex room, you may need to reserve and pay for all the beds in one room. Payment in full will be required at the time of booking.

Parties and groups can be accommodated, and if required, daytime conference facilities and catering can be arranged. Functions such as parties, family reunions and informal wedding parties may be catered for when the entire pub and hostel can be hired.
